A few highlights of outdoor endeavors:
We took Little T on his first ever “snow camping” experience to Snoqualmie Pass where went snowshoeing through the woods, dug a snow cave, slid down a hill, and made some excellent bean glop…ie. one-pot-cooking.
Then, Lu went skiing for her first time ever at the ski hill where I learned as a kid. She quickly went from the “snowplow” to “pizza and fries” to linking parallel turns…all in an afternoon. Many thanks to Roger Strong, our friend and the local Black Diamond sales rep, for the equipment loaner. Black Diamond has another new customer!
Later, we spent the weekend out at Vantage where we got a dose of sunshine and plenty of climbing. Camping out in the desert, in the back of the Subaru, reminded me that it’s been a long time since I’ve road tripped. But waking up to the sage-scented breeze of eastern Washington was real pleasure.
Backcountry skiing is something I do less and less of these days, especially since I’m gone most of the winter, but skinning up to Jim Hill off of Highway 2 with some good friends–on a sunny day–really makes a season for me. In my case, it pretty much WAS my season. But hey, at least I was able to get out.
