Renee C Byer, who at one time worked at the Seattle P-I, won the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for feature photography for her work in “A Mother’s Journey” which is about the struggles a single mother faces in her son’s final year with cancer.
It is a powerful package and I recommend taking the time to read the text. For the aspiring photographer I think this shows two things; Cindy’s words at the end reveal something about the relationship between journalist and subject. Also, like they told me in college, meaningful stories are in our backyard. We just need to open our eyes and see.
